I have many VMs on a single storage, to avoid storage SPOF(not DR, not metro cluster), i want to by another storage, same brand, same capacity, but i'm not sure whether ESXi have a LVM feature so it can combine two LUN from each storage to one.
or if you have other approach to avoid storage SPOF? thanks a lot!
You can have two different storage boxes and give LUNs from them, Create a datastore and addthe other LUN as extent. But i'm sure ESXi does not have the capability to take two LUN's and combine then as a single datastore while creating.
This is usually done by using other products like VPLEX. But you say its not for DR and its just to avoid SPOF. Why not have a LUN level replication between the storage boxes or look at backup solutions?
thanks for reply. for backup solution, it does not solve business continuity issue. yes i can use storage based replication, but it introduce down time when primary storage failed. if ESXi have some feature like UNIX LVM, the failover would be more smoother and is transparent to user in case of storage failure
