Hello, when I try to install esxi 5.1 on my server (It's a supermicro X9SCL/X9SCM motherboard) I configured a RAID1 (2 disks) and a RAID5 (4 disks).
I can see all 6 disks but they are not in RAID mode.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Jason
This is because ESXi does not support software RAID. The best bet would be to find a RAID card with a battery-backed cache that is listed in the VMware HCL.

Thanks for your reply.
I found the answer after I searched this fourm.
I bought this card

I think this one will work right?
This controller (LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-8i) should be fine, at least it is listed in VMware's HCL as supported for ESXi 5.1
André
OK, that is listed in the HCL. Check out this discussion for some more info.
Thanks
so the RAID controller should be under I/O device or storage?
Thank you!!
Yes, just enter the model number 9240-8i in the keyword field, no further selection needed.
André
Oh got it! Thanks again!
