I have a XP VM that is thin provisioned, it is using 1.5GB of 30GB that is provisioned. I can see the size in the datastore. When I convert it to a template the disk grows to 15GB. Why is that and can I change this behavior?
There is no option to preserve thin disk when you convert the VM to template. However, you can do "deploy VM from this template" and choose back "Thin provisioned format" during the wizard.
