Hi folks,
We have a monitoring software that connects to our ESX hosts in a rate that makes the wtmp log explode.
It is my understanding that you can delete the wtmp file, and it won't be recreated until the host is booted. Is there any way to completely disable the file, or somehow limit it in size?
Hi,
I believe what you are looking for is in here

You can amend the logrotate to specify limits etc on the file.

As far as i can see - that does not cover the wtmp log?
The problem is the /var/log/secure and /var/log/wtmp files.
Because of the massive amount of shhd entries, the files grow very large, very quickly.
