Hi,
I've been playing with the USB passthrough setting, but now i've trouble resetting it. How often i unmark the checkboxes, doesn't matter, after the reboot they're back.
My configuration:
HP ML330 with 2 E5504 / 18GB memory booting from USB ....
While booting the messages "dvfilter loaded successfully" and "vmfs3 loaded successfully" stay on the screen for several minutes.
Can somebody give me a hint?
regards Henk
Take a look at item 3 on this page - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/fix_config_issues.php. When you run a repair install of ESXi it will not wipe the VMFS datastore so after the reconfigure the host you just need to add the VMs back to inventory.

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.
Where are you seeing/setting USB pass through? It's a feature we don't support yet - I'd be suprised it is visible in the UI!
Configuration tab --> Advanced settings --> Edit opens the window "Mark devices for passthrough"
In my case there are 6 USB UHCI controllers and 2 USB2 EHCI controllers.
I checked them to see if i could connect the UPS through USB to a VM.
Ok, on my blackberry at the moment but I think you are selecting the vmdirect path io mechanism which we support nics and hba's only, requires hw mmu support and specific functionality in the pci card to make it work. So likely you are in very unsupported area and could make your esx host unstable. If you have access to an account team you can get them to elaborate our plans on usb, it is still under nda. In the mean time can you consider ip based usb solutions? For most applications this is a better approach in any case.

At the moment i'm only looking for a way to make it undone.
Is reinstalling the USB stick with an original image enough or will the setting still exist?
Will i loose all the current data (VM's and ISO's etc.) if i do so?
Not sure. Have you tried putting the host into maintenance mode?

Thanks for your effort, but putting the host in maintenance mode did not resolve the issue.
Thank you!!!
Although i did cross my fingers as i booted from my live-cd, as i had never done it before....
The instructions of what to look for and how to change it, were very clear and it resolved my problem!
Glad to hear it worked out for you.

It did work, but it wiped out the root password? Is this normal behavior?
(Nice to know if i ever lose my password....
No, when I tested the process only the VMdirectpath config was affected. The root password is stored in /etc/shadow - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Reset_root_password.php.
