From the recent security vulnerabilities in VMSA-2021-0002 https://www.vmware.com/security/advisories/VMSA-2021-0002.html
The suggest workaround https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/76372 is to disable SLP service on ESXi host. I have a couple of question
- What is the function of SLP service?
- What is the impact if SLP service is disabled?
From what I understand SLP service is for vCenter to monitor hardware and performance of the ESXi host. If disabled, would cause vCenter to lose access to hardware health monitoring. Hence vCenter will not be able to receive alert for hardware health at vCenter level.
Anyone has applied this workaround please share if this is true.
