Different versions of ESX in a single cluster and its down side?

Hi all,

I am not sure about this so just wanted to know -- In a cluster (with HA n DRS enabled) if I have different versions of ESX Hosts running like 3.5 / 4.0 / 4.1 and all my VM's are on Virtual Hardware 4.

What are the issues that I am likely to see.

Thanks

Hi,

As good as none, I do this all the time when perfoming a upgrade for a customer and it is supported by VMware.

Take a look at this blog post for more info and restrictions.

Cheers!

It's ok to have mixed hosts in a cluster, but is generally done as part of working towards an upgrade. It makes sense to have all your hosts at the same level so that you can take advantage of newer features such as vm hardware versions, vmfs-5 etc
