Differences between ESXi downloads

I noticed on the download pages, it has different categories of products such as Essentials, Essential Plus, Standard, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus but all of the images have the same size.

My understanding is they are the same image and that the actual license key is the one that dictates all the features.  For example we are licensed for Enterprise Plus but downloaded the Dell custom ISO for our R840 installation (direct downloaded from VMware site).

Just making sure as we are building out the new environment (going from 6.5 to 7.0 on fresh build and new hardware) and don't want any surprises when we migrate all the VMs over and found out the license key doesn't match our installation image.

Thanks,

TT

Basically all the isos act like con-man.
First they all  behave like Enterprise Plus - but without the license they will have to drop their pants at the age of 60 days.
In the end most of them are just Free ESXis ....
so you are correct.

Hello.
Indeed all ISO images contain VMware vSphere (ESXi host) and when installed automatically activates a demo license for 60 days, with all its active features.
Custom ISO images from hardware manufacturers include additional drivers for their own devices to the standard VMware image.

The difference is in the features that are activated according to the license that is entered, Standard, Enterprise, Essentials Kit, Essentials Plus Kit and more.

The license entry or change of licenses is online.

If you have version 6 licenses and have a current SnS contract, you can obtain the new version 7 licenses from the VMware website where you registered your VMware products.

If your SnS contract is not current, you may need to purchase new version 7 licenses.
