\Device\Scsi\symmpi2, did not respond within the timeout period

Windows event ID 9.

I am getting this on two 2003 R2 VM's, on the same host, directly connected to a SAN (not iSCSI).

Checked the kb, I am running latest tools which has set the timeout correctly (60).  It seems to have started on the same day (1/28/2012) for each VM.  I have been freaking out thinking it is SAN related, but as I am working through this, I think it may be related to the tape drives that are conncted to both of these servers via SCSI.

Any idea how I can verify that?  How do I determine what device symmpi2 is?

The events are coming within milliseconds of eachother (eachother = each VM).  There is no backup running or anything that shoudl be accessing these SCSI connections.

Thanks.

OK, it is obvious now that this is related to the SCSI tape drives..

Let this (my humility) be a reminder to everyone, as no matter how much of an "expert" one is (and expert I am NOT), always, always always, ALWAYS check the physical layer first!

Loose SCSI cable. (Actually, incorrect cable all together since it doesn't have the proper locking mechanism for the device it's attached to).
