Desktop class machine for testing VMs

I'd like to set up a test environment in a very sound sensitive area running ESXi 4 to run some non-production VMs.

While not officially supported, I'm looking to use a desktop machine for this. Any specific recommendations? (I've looked at the various whitebox HCL sites, but I'm concerned about noise here, something those sites do not address).

I'm looking at two of our standard desktop machines. The Dell Optiplex 760 or the HP DC7900. Anyone running ESXi on those? Any experiences with other machines? The HCL listing seems to mention these should work. The Optiplex 780 is out now but I can't find mention of how well it works.

Any other small quiet machines you've tried ESXi on?
