Dell omconfig equivalent for ESXi?

Hi, I've installed the Dell Openmanage VIB for remote hardware monitoring with http://staff.washington.edu/joshuadf/esxi/check_esx_wbem.py

But now I need to set the BIOS VT propery remotely- on ESX omconfig is documented to do this:

http://www.onlinetechblog.com/blog/index.php/2009/11/how-to-enable-virtualization-technologyvt-on-de...

omconfig chassis biossetup attribute=cpuvt setting=enabled

How can I accomplish this on ESXi? Or is this not possible remotely?

thanks

Hi, I am having the same problem with some old Dell 1855 and ESXi.

Did you find out how and where type the omconfig command to enable VT?

Thanks,

Filippo

This is not possible with ESXi.  Yet another reason ESXi is *not* feature equivalent to ESX, no matter what VMware tries to convince us all of.

I did not find a ESXi solution - I ended up getting on the console to do this via the BIOS config directly.

Cheers

This is not possible with ESXi.

First ESXi will REPLACE ESX, so version 4.2 or 5.0 or whatever VM Ware will decide to name it, there will be NO console version of ESX anymore. VM ware wouldn't cut themselves short if they KNEW the limitations of such a product.  Second this *IS* possible and there *IS* an ESXi version of Dell OM, it's on Dell's website.

Third.. It's part of the power CLI or vma appliance even, so ALL commands can be done in ESXi OR ESX, they use the SAME API commands, you even have a DIRECT host text command in ESXi, so that is an incorrect statement.

Yet another reason ESXi is *not* feature equivalent to ESX, no matter what VMware tries to convince us all of.

It's a good thing you aren't the product manager for VM Ware.  Your promotion techniques need work

I tried to set VT via BIOS but I coudn´t find the parameter. Possibly 'cause my BIOS release is too old (Version 1.10 A02).

I see two possibilities to solve this problem:

1 - Execute a BIOS update.

2 - Install Windows or another version of ESX full in order to properly install Open Manager.

Regards.

If I remember on my HP servers, changing VT required a power OFF to enable. I don't know what is available from the DRAC interface but worth a look especially if it does require a powercycle.
