Dell R710 running on ESXi4.1 upgrading to 5.1 error

I downloaded the dell customized esxi 5.1 recovery CD from

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=XWYR5

but when i try to upgrade my esxi 4.1 server it give an error about vibs not available on the iso.

I am using a kickstart script with upgrade command

upgrade --firstdisk=local

The two mentioned vibs were added with ESXi 4.1 Update 1, but have been removed in later versions. Unless you need these drivers for your hardware (which I don't think) you can follow the recommendation on the screen. See also http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2009014

Thank you. Just wondering what is the difference if I do an upgrade vs a clean install and preserving the vmfs volume?

With an upgrade the host's configuration (e.g. networking, NTP, Storage access, ...) is preserved. With a clean installation you need to configure all the settings again.
