I have just installed ESXi 4.1 onto a Dell R710 that has an MD1000 connected to it. I have a problem in that the datastores on the MD1000 are only available for a few minutes after booting ESXi and then they 'disappear'. If I try to add the storage again, it shows up, but then wont attach unless I restart the server. Has this happened to anyone else? I have been searching for a solution but am having no luck. The volumes on the MD1000 are all less than 2TB in size.
No, I was not able to solve this issue. Eventually, I installed ESX 3.5i and tested. This ran with no issues/problems, so stayed with this version. I have encountered no issues or problems with this combination.
I take it no-one else has found a solution for this?
I have exactly the same issue with a Dell R610, and ESXi 4.1 U1.
The hardware was working fine on a PE 1950 running ESX 4.1, but after being moved to the new server, datastores just get removed after 30 seconds or so.
Spent several hours so far with both Dell and VMware and still looking for a solution....
Ok well following talking to VMware support...as the MD1000 isn't supported anymore by VMware (isn't on the HCL) then they can't help.
We're going to have to ditch the MD1000 and find another solution.
