Dell R710 always detected VM Guest memory in 95%

Dear Guys,

I have a R710 with 2 intel 5506 CPU, 8GB memory. I installed several windows VM inside. I found that the ESXi host always detected all Windows are using over 95% memory and I got the alert or warning. When I checked the Windows, it just using less than 50% memory only.

I also have another 2850 and installed the ESXi and it haven't this problem.

Is there any suggestion to solve this?

Thank you very much.

Nothing to solve, it's Windows.

Do a screen shot of the VM showing 95% RAM usage on R710. You will CLEARLY see Windows uses this RAM for CACHE. So that RAM is still being used by Windows. Windows will decrease the CACHE and increase RAM for programs, but the memory is still utilized by Windows.

Open Taskmanager, you will see the performance tab and the figures will add up.

2GB allocated to a VM, Windows takes almost 100% up front, it uses 80% for cache, the rest for programs, since it's in use, ESX shows it as 95% used, thus the issue.

It's not really a bug, it's the way Windows works. If it doesn't work on OTHER ESX servers, that's probably because you have a few more VM's that share the RAM, which lowers the usage from ESX hosts.
