Dell MD3000 and ESXI 4.0

We have rectly purchaed Dell MD3000 for our 4 ESXI servers Disk expansion. It came with 4 SAS 5/E adapters cards (one adapter for each server). I have installed one adapted in one of the servers, and have attahced it to the MD3000 with the High speed cable (cable it came with). I do not see any lights flashing on the back on the adapter.

For the SCSI card to work the driver CD has drivers for Linux and other OS. My question is that do I need to install any drivers for the SCSI card to work with VMware ESXI or VMware EXSI should automaticlly detect the SCSI card. Can anyone please suggest a solution.

Hi Amrsaeed,

ESX and ESXi need specific drivers.

The Dell SAS 5/E adapter is supported by ESXi 4.0 as mentioned in the Compatibility Guide. The necessary driver is even already integrated in ESXi.

So the only thing you should need to do for the controller to be recognized by the system should be to the Configuration / Storage adapter of your hosts and run a Rescan All.

Good luck.

Regards

Franck
