Datastore status "unknown"

Jump to solution

We recently upgrade vCenter and our test esx server to version 4. The datastore status icon on the vSphere server is showing unknown on vmfs volumes. Does anyone know what would cause this as our production esx server are showing the datastore status as ok?

Anyone ever find a resolution to this? I am encountering the same issue...

Ok.. I solved my own problem like 3 minutes after posting this..

I had disabled the"Datastore usage on Disk" alarm.

When I re-enabled it the Datastore status "unknown" issue was resolved.

Are your ESX servers running from the same datastore?

Hi,

Are you seeing the same issue reported in "http://communities.vmware.com/message/1293235#1293235". If not can you please update a screenshot (Sorry..I didn't understand what do you mean by "The datastore status icon on the vSphere server is showing unknown on vmfs volumes").

Thanks

Sudhish

We have recently upgraded our environment as well and the ‘unknown' question mark icon appears on our LUN's also. Anyone have any ideas what this status is?

Enabling the "Datastore usage on Disk" alarm on virtual center also corrected my issue. Thanks for the help.

Yes !!

If you upgradet from 2.5 to 4.1 all EVA Datastores was in status unknown.

But the Datastore usage alarm was enabled wtf!

But....

1. go to the top of your Vcenter and choose on the right site on alarms and then definitions.

2. Search in the List Datastore Usage Alarm.

3. Disable the Alarm and klick ok.

4. Wait a minute or so.

5. Reenable the alarm.

6. Unknown host message is gone.

Ihad to add a new Definition since I could not find one with "Datastore Usage"

After this all OK.
