If we have 3 host, and I have 3 virtual machine that i have choice to separate.
What will happen if one host goes down. Will it says it need to be separate, so we will keep it offline, or will it moved to one of the two other host?
The reason iam asking, is becuase i have a installation, where one host just went down, and this vm, was not migrated as the rest of the vms to other host.
whats the affinity rule type you selected? should or must?
if its must, the VM will not powered on on other host. But if its should the vm will be powered on on one of the other hosts.
Please find more details on following article.
If you use a MUST rule then vSphere HA will not violate it. Even if that means the VM will go down and stay down. As that is what you specified in the rule. If you would like the VM to be restarted you should be using SHOULD rules. These rules are not mandatory rules. HA will do it's best to respect these, but it will always go for availability of the VM first, so it will restart the VM. you can find a lot of info in my ebook here: ha.yellow-bricks.com
