DRS needed for Resource Pools? (vSphere 5)

Good Morning,

We are making the leap from XenServer to VMWare at the minute and are looking at vSphere Standard as a starting block.

I am looking to use Resource Pools in order to manage resources - is it correct for resource pools to work I would need DRS (Which is only available in the Enterprise package)?

If so, do I still need DRS in order to set reservations, limits and shares to individual VM's?

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

for using ressource pools inside a HA Cluster you need DRS. Without DRS you can create ressource pools for single hosts only.

DRS is not needed for reservations, limits of VMs.

for mor info about ressource management take a look at this doc:

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-501-resour...
