DAVG high latancy on ME5 with VMware 7.0 and 8.0

Hello,

I am using Dell 5024 ME5 (24 * 2.4 SAS drive with adapt raid setup)

Setup All drives on Single Pool A and Single Disk group A with 44 TB Usable space.

Created 10 TB Volume and attached with All VM host

I am getting high latency on DAVG while running the IO meter.

Disk Size: 20 GB
#Outstanding I/Os: 16 per target

Transfer Request size : 4 Kib
100% Random
Read50% /Write50%

Ram Up Time: 10
Run time: 10 Minutes

Here i am sending yo San attached diagram, IO Meter result and DAVG results on ESXTOP commaond

What type of connection do you use? iSCSI, FC, or SAS?

Did you configure the settings as recommended by Dell (https://infohub.delltechnologies.com/l/dell-powervault-me5-series-vmware-vsphere-best-practices/intr...). Especially DelayedAck, MTU, and MPIO settings can make a difference with iSCSI.

DAVG and no KAVG indicates that it is a storage side problem...

Here is my SCSI connection setup detail

Created two VMkernel adapters, one for each SAN Lan Port
Created VMkernel adapter is on its own vSwitch with a single vmnic (physical NIC adapter 10G).
Enabled Jumbo frames on both the VMkernel adapters and the vSwitches.
Enabled the software iSCSI initiator.
Added an IP address from an iSCSI port on controller A to the software iSCSI initiator under dynamic discovery.
Added a second IP address from an iSCSI port on controller B to the software iSCSI initiator under dynamic discovery.

Example:  VM ESXi 8 and Dell ME 5024 setup

San Controller A: Port : 10.10.23.101/24   San Controller B: Port : 10.10.27.101/24

VMkernel 1 IP: 10.10.23.100/24   VMkernel 2 IP: 10.10.27.100/24

As per the attached diagram, I have set up the Dell server and ME 5024 San.

so far I have set up Adapt raid with Disk Pool A with 12 drives(8+2 strip) and Pool B with 12 drives (8+2 strip) and created a single disk group for each Pool. And the same way, I have created a single volume on each Disk group.

So now I have one volume on the A Disk group and another volume on the B Disk group with 17 TB space.

as of now, I haven't started production on it due to latency issues.

Same as mentioned in your other thread, contact Dell or ask on their forum, as you are not seeing KAVG, this indicated the problem is either the network or the storage system, as it is direct connect, I suspect it is the storage system which doesn't provide the performance you would expect.

Yes, another thread was posted in 2018 and was for ME4. and Vmware 6.5.

This thread for VMware 8 and ME5 with the same setup and gives high latency.
