DATA missing after storage migration.

So I migrated a VM (after I powered off) from storage A to B. After the Migration was complete, I was able to start the VM. It had successfully migrated as per the tasks and events. But when I browse Data Store B, I don't see a folder (with all its file) in Storage B. I also checked the old Storage A and its not their either. But the VM starts fine

I did SSH to ESX and searched everywhere and I could not find it.

On some servers, after the storage migration, the new storage has a folder but in that there is only a vswp file. VMDK and lots of other files are all missing. But vm starts fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

There might be the case, your VM-display name (Name of the VM that you see in inventory) and VM files folder name can be different. Please check the same.

If you have renamed your VM name on storage A & then if you relocate that VM to storage B, VM files get renamed with the name that you have given for VM when it was on Storage A.

Nope that is not the case. Thanks for your answer.

Anything else you can think off? If the VM is running, I'm sure it should be able to read the data from somewhere...

I also found out that if I try to close the running VM or try to migrate again, i will lose everything. This is when VM realizes that the files are missing.

Anyway I need a solution to fix this as i have few other VM's with the same issue.

Thanks.

Ok. Create a fresh VM (with or without GOS) and migrate  it from Storage-A to Storage-B & see if you do reproduce the issue again. Also please try creating/migrating VM from other storage altogether. (May be Storage-c & d)

If this does not work. You may want to talk to VMware support.

At least can you tell me how to fix this issue:

One of VM after migrating, I see the folder when I SSH to ESX. But I can not see that in DataStore when I click browse.

Someone please reply?
