Why do we have to use manual settings for reconfiguration?
Why can't we simply right click a VM, choose reconfigure, and then choose a customization, just like a deploy template does? Why must it be COMPLETELY different. All I want to do is rename a VM (guest and VM name).
Sometimes I have to 10 at a time, it would be nice if this were more streamlined. We can do it now as a template but customize a reconfigure VM doesn't have the option to use an existing customization setting.
For Windows VM, this may be useful:

This is not really nice way, but you can clone VMs with customization.

Yeah for many reasons, one I have to delete the original when done, it takes 30 -45 VM's our VM's, and it's not as simply as rename. I should be able to power off VM. Right click, reconfigure using settings, done. 5 minutes it reboots itself, all ready to go. No intervention and no clean up.
To mass deploy you can use scripting.
There are some script that can do also VM customization.
For example:

Yes, that's nice, but still the root of the problem is rename, not deploy or clone. Just want to rename VM's.
We shouldn't have to mass deploy VM's just to rename them.
Still I like the script, so I may be able to use that for other projects. Thanks!

Ah nice, thanks! That works for me!
You're welcome.
