I have been having an unusual issue with my cron jobs on ESX 4.0 Update 1 and later. I have a mixed environment, running both ESX and ESXi, this only is affecting ESX servers. Since I have updated to Update 1 and now 4.1 my cron jobs (ghettoVCB Backups) will not run. I have tried to schedule the job multiple ways including the following.
- creating a bash script to run the command and scheduling the script to run in crontab.
- Trying the command or script in /etc/crontab
- Trying to schedule it in /etc/cron.d
The script or the command both run properly if I run it manually.
The logs do not show that the job even tries to run, but other system scheduled task are running and logged.
I have reviewed the logs (message, cron, and security) and do not see anything unusual.
