Creating 2 balanced clusters with different servers

Hi everyone,

I'v got 9 Dell servers :

1 PE2900

1 PE1950

1 R300

2 R410

4 R610

I'm looking for a way to create 2 balanced clusters in order to re-deploy those servers in a vSphere 5 environment.

I was wondering if there's guidelines available that could help me achieve that?

My first though was to assess the CPU/RAM type and capacity, then try the best I could to split in half all this processing power...

I'll be glad to read your suggestions / questions.

Regards

Sebastien

You'll need to determine their CPUs and see if you can use EVC to allow them to be in the same cluster(s): EVC and CPU Compatibility FAQ

CPU EVC Mode supported : check

6 CPUs supporting Merom, Penryn and Nehalem EVC

3 CPUs supporting Merom and Penryn EVC...

So you can create a single cluster with 9 hosts (using Penryn EVC baseline) or 2 clusters.

IMHO... try to match the memory size (and if possible the CPU power), instead of the EVC baseline... just to have hosts "balanced"
