Dear ESXi community !
Hi,
Yes 6gb looks a little low - 2gb is the recommended bare minimum for esxi 5 - see http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.install.doc_50%2FGUID-DEB808...
suspect with the 2gb the hypervisor has taken whatever is left is what you see there in the resource allocation tab
Many tx

Thanks for your quick answer. Isn't the memory used by the hypervisor displayed in the Configuration-->Memory tab ?
There I can see that the memory taken by the system is only about 400 Mo and that the memory left for the VM is the difference 6Gb - 400 Mo= 5600Mo... even though the resource allocation tab shows only 3985 Mo...
Hey,
Indeed - i see the same but just wondering on your main host dashboard under resources what you see for memory? i've enclosed a screenshot
from a host i have running with no (promise!) virtual machines running, notice its 3gb ? can be a variety of factors but in a non-clustered environment still should be 2gb
Hey
I attached the folloging screenshots of my ESX with no VM installed (FYI language is french) :
- HostDashboard-Ressource --> 939 Mo Used / Capacity 6141 Mo
- HostConfig-Memory --> Total 6141 Mo / System 27 Mo / VM 6114 Mo
- RessourceAllocation --> Total 3989 Mo / Total 3989 Mo
Surprising... Still doesn't make sense, some of the memory "disappear" somewhere...
I've tried on that very same server to install ESXi 4.1 or ESXi 5 and in the two cases I get the same problem....
