Converting an existing machine

For those of you who created an isolated management network (I created a VLAN for my iSCSI and management network) with no connection to my virtual machine network (or my physical network). How are you now converting existing machines into VM's as it would seem they need a connection to the management network in order to be converted?

You need to have a connection to the ESX console and/or the vCenter server.

Put a firewall in between.

Option A; Open some ports in the firewall during the conversion

Option B: Use cold clone boot CD and convert to a USB disk. Then bring the USB disk into the management vlan and import the machine.

For option B can you elaborate on how to make a cold clone boot CD. Right now I have no connection whatever between the 2 networks so Option A isn't going to work. Thanks for your help.

You can download the vmware converter cold clone cd the same place you download vCenter. Then you just burn the iso to a cd-rom.
