Passwords are being rejected by our ESX 4.1 hosts at both the console and via ssh with a few exceptions.
The root password is OK for logging in to the console.
If I su to another user I can use the passwd command. It asks for the current password and accepts it, it accepts the new password and says the tokens have been updated successfully. But I can't log in with the new password, not by ssh and not in the console and not via the su command. The only thing that accepts the new passwords is the passwd command.
What's going on?
