Considering moving from ESX 4.1 to 5.0

Hello,

We have 6 hosts and we are running ESX 4.1 (VMware Datacentre) and vCentre, we have about 80 VM's across 6 Dell Equallogic SAN's.  Now I have seen version 5.0 out, but what confuses me is it is ESXi 5.0 and not ESX 5.0 why is this or is this a different product?  I thought ESXi was the free version as we use this for testing and disaster recovery.

Also are there are comarisions articles on what improvments I will see in version 5.0?

Thanks

the most important thing to note is the change in the licensing model.

vSphere 5 has only ESXi version, no more ESX in vSphere5

I thought ESXi was the free version as we use this for testing and disaster recovery.

In vSphere5 you have ESXi free version as well

regarding upgrade - on your place I would wait few months mre, vSphere 5 is still young product and as I see there are some bugs which users discovers during upgrade, if you have test env, do it first there if you don't have it - no rush with upgrade cause it might make more problems then benefits afterwords
