Considerations while expanding the size of the datastore with in same LUN

Do we need to take some precautions before letting the storage team to increase the size of the LUN itself.

1. Make sure storage array supports this functionality

2. Changes are performed to the correct LUN

3. If LUN is part of datastore cluster, consider bringing all LUNs to equal size.

Hi

Welcome to communities.

First make sure you have sufficient storage and buffer .

2nd clean all unnecessarily folders and log to calculate the real utilization of storage .

From the KB Article: Growing or expanding a VMFS volume or datastore (1017662)

Note: If the LUN experiences a high I/O throughput when growing the VMFS, the ESX host may not be able to complete the operation. In such a case, repeat the process during non-business hours and when backup operations are not running. If the problem persists, power off some of the virtual machines residing on the LUN and then retry.
