Configure LDAP for ESX Management

My goal is to configure ESXi for LDAP management (I'm using OS X open directory for my testbed) but haven't figured out how to do it. The GUI only provides AD binding as far as I can tell and I've found info on an esxcfg-auth command that doesn't exist on the ESXi box and didn't come with the vCLI. Am I missing a package I was supposed to download? Thanks.

I am not sure, if that is possible according to release notes it just says vSphere 4.1 will integrate with Active Directory. Here is the link

Thanks

No there is no supported way to configure ESXi to provide AD Authentication at the host level. However you can user vCenter to use LDAP to manage host and guest. What are you trying to acomplish ?

ESXi does support AD integration in v4.1 and 5. It's in Host > configuration tab > authentication services > Properties. But it's AD, which while it technically supports the LDAP standard there' s a bunch of additions to the standard that makes it a bit non-standard... So AD yes, but I still don't seen anything about basic LDAP3
