Can anyone please advise how to configure ESX host ( 3.5) to send SNMP traps to a third party server ...say (10.60.0.1)
2) It looks like its only sending traps if there is an error or fault on the hots and i need it to send performance stats regularly
If this is possible depends on what VMware put into the MIB's and agents.
You can check for performance metrics in the MIB and I assume that when they exist they are not send as a trap but they need to be requested via a SNMP get from the management suite.

1. Open the firewall for port SNMP 162 UDP.
2. Add these lines to your "/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf":
The trap community name: "trapcommunity public"
The target: "trapsink AWo

Depends on what SNMP agents you're using Dell Open Manage, IBM Director, HP SIM, SCOM using nWorks management packs etc...but anyways, using instructions below should work http://lewanps.wordpress.com/2009/02/23/how-to-setup-snmp-on-esx-35-servers/
