Clone VM servers when it is online

1) Did anyone clone a VM server with it online?

2) how long will the clone take for 80 -100GB hard disk servers? How to calculate that?

3) Can I use converter to convert one server to another duplicate server then re-configure IP address and names?

4) Can vcenter be installed on a Linux box? What is the disadvantage of it?

Answers to 3 & 4 -

3) Yes you can  use Converter to duplicate a machine and as part of this process change the IP and Host name

4) vCenter is a windows application - there is Linux based appliance that you can use to manage your environmen that is Linux based -

thank you for your reply. We have one vcenter only and the vcenter sits on the Linux box, we cannot use windows network login to login vsphere, everyone use the root

Not sure how is it installed  that way.

You have two possibilities -

  1. You could already be running the vCenter Appliance or
  2. You are running vCenter in a Windows VM that is being hosted on VMware Workstation running on LInux -

The lunix sits on an ESXi then a vcenter sits on a windows VM....whatever just cannot use windows logon, only can use root user ID:)
