Cisco UCS and graceful shutdown issue

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with this for some time; I am amazed how neither Cisco nor APC have a coordinated graceful shutdown solution.

I'm hoping someone has stumbled upon the same challenge here.

In summary Cisco sells a Xeon box they label UCS C220 M4S which could be OEMed, who cares. The bottom line is that it runs ESXi 5.5 and all the VMs that run inside comprise the Unified Communications product they sell. The objective is to interface that ESXi to a UPS for graceful shutdown. All proprietary VMs do run VM Ware tools so each VM is well aware of the ESXi status, etc

I figured the easy thing to do is run PCNS OVA and that can easily initiate ESXi shut down and from there all VMs will be stopped gracefully. Problem is Cisco says no you can't run any OVAs on our chassis?

Anyone figured how to go around all this and keep Cisco happy yet at the same time provide for graceful shutdown of the ESXi which runs on the glorified bare metal UCS C220 M4S?

Thanks

~B
