Choice between EMC VNX and DELL EqualLoigic ?

Hi,

We have been using EMC Clarrion for a number of years.  We are going to implement a new site with vSphere.  We prefer to continue using EMC VNX (We purchase EMS SAN from DELL before) but DELL gives us a pretty good offer for their product EqualLogic.

We just wonder whether we should keep using VNX (we have the experience and skills) or should we try EqualLogic ?   Price is not the main determining factor as their price are similar.

Thanks

If the price isn´t the decision factor & the system characteristics are pretty equal I would stay with EMC if you having already the skills. Regarding the price you need also to keep in mind that you need to send your team out again for training etc., so that a new "cheaper" system fast can become the more expensive one (depending of the size of your team is).

Your team will not have any problems to move from Clariion to VNX because it´s pretty much the same, so there shouldn´t be any training necessary.

If you are building a new site you may want to use replication (MirrorView) between the old and the new system? That´s no problem between VNX and Clarrion.

Mario

DELL says that they can offer free training for EqualLogic for us (Not on-site training).  I have browsed their training site and it seems that it only gets "Introduction to Dell EqualLogic PS Series Storage Arrays Online Training".

On the other hand, we don't get software like SANCopy / SnapView ... etc for EMC.  Are those stuff come along with standard DELL EqualLogic ?

Thanks

There is another agrument from DELL that sooner or later, we will migrate to iSCSI as FC is fading out (Though they have Compllent SAN).

Which VNX are you looking for?

Only the VNX 5100 is a FC only system. All other VNX brings FC, iSCSI & FCoE as block protocol.
