Changing the IP Address of the hosts in a Cluster. Any risks?

Hi there,

I'm just about to migrate a cluster to a different data center. As part of the move the Hosts will be moving to the subnet of the new site.

I just wanted to check this will not have any impact on vCenter seeing the cluster once the hosts are in the new subnet?

Is there anything I should watch out for?

I looked at a few KB's but I couldn't find one that gave any other info rather than just how to do it Smiley Happy

Cheers for any info.

Will the hostname or FQDN change as well? If not then you should be fine as long as the vCenter server can communicate with the new subnet.

Even if the hostname doesn't change, you'll need to update the existing DNS records or create new ones and delete the old ones.  When you've changed the management IPs and gateways (and maybe DNS servers) of the hosts, simply add back to vCenter.  No issues there.

Ensure you've vMotioned or removed from inventory all VMs and templates on those hosts or you'll likely have small issues with them when you bring the hosts up.

All the best,

Mike

Hi,

Thankfully the FQDN isn't changing just the management network IP Addresses. Phew. One less thing to worry about.:)

Cheers for that.
