Changing from vSphere appliance to Win/vSphere. Gotchas?

I've grown frustrated with the VMware vSphere appliance especially since it's not working at this time. I am thinking of firing up a 2012 server and install 5.1 Update 1c.

I've never started a vSphere server mid-stride. What things would I run into?

What issues are you running into? What version of the VCSA are you running? The typical challenges most admins run into is with the SSO.

Running original 5.1 release of the VCSA. Right now my big issue is that I can't log into it with my vSphere client. I can log into the web interface with root, but somehow AD Auth is boinked, and I can't perform actions like upgrading the VCSA. Last time I messed with the VCSA I had to open a ticket with VMware just to get authentication working. It was a big hassle back then.
