Changing Cache Settings

Is it possible to change the P400 controller cache setting on a HP proliant DL380G5 while running ESXi4?

I guess no, but I don't want to switch off all VM's walk to the server room and boot the boody smartstart cdrom.

this is a hardware thing, so as you said you'll have to bring down the host.

It can be done from windows and linux using the HP raid array configuration tool.

Would be nice if there was a r.a. plugin for ESXi4.

yes, but ESXi is neither. Since there is no service console it will be tough. If you have classic ESX, I would say maybe....

I haven't seen one, but yes that would be a nice to have.

You can do some things from ILO depending on the version of ILO and the license level.

I got no license and no cable running to ILO board. I guess i'll be spending some time in the serverroom. sigh, it's cold and windy there!

While you are there do hook up the ILO cable. With no licensing you get some access to the disks/controller. You can remotely restart the server or shut it down and power it on. Have a look. Remember to set passwords.

I'm fully licensed for iLO2 and do not have any option to change the cache for the P400 controller. Plus, if you don't have an iLO license you won't be able to launch the remote console.....am I missing something?

I still say the most effective way would be to take a downtime and do this in front of the console.

Not suggesting that he can change the cache only suggesting that he connect ILO while he has it offline since even un licensed he gets access to some very useful features. I haven't done any ILO scripting in quite a while you do get access to quite a bit from the CLI interface.
