Change vmknic MTU to jumbo frames on the fly -- or do I need to reboot?

I have a couple of ESXi hosts where the physical switches, Equallogic SAN and vSwitches were set to use jumbo frames, but the vmknic associated with the iSCSI VLAN was not.

It's a simple change to enable jumbo frames on the vmknic, but is it "safe" to do with production workloads, and almost more imporantly, will it take effect without rebooting the host and re-initiating the iSCSI connections?

yes, it's safe and no need to reboot. With vCenter5 you can change the MTU using the GUI as well

Hi,

Just as Troy stated, yes it is absolutely save. The change goes "on the fly". Probably you'll miss a ping or two but it's within the boundaries.

Cheers!
