Change the SCSI Controller Type

Normally if at the time of the vm creation a wrong operating system is selected by us but we are trying to install the another os the hard disk is not detected by the installation. I think probably it is due to the wrong scsi controller type is selected during the virtual machine creation. My question is that possible to change the scsi controller type  by editing the virtual machine file?

Which guest OS are you trying to install and what is the error which are facing.

Changing SCSI type for Windows OS is possible (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100214...)

To change in VMDK file (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100662...)

Since your trying to install the OS and it fails due to scsi adapter. it possible to go back change the scsi adapter for what ever the OS your installing.

But if you have installed the OS and it  fails to boot due to scsi adapter, then you can go directly  and change scsi adapter for windows and for linux you can change it before that you need to do few modification in the linux VM config files. and this scenario you will get only when you do P2V.

for VM with fresh install in the install stage itself it will through error saying that its because of scsi adapter..
