Cd drive is not detecting in EXSI vm servers

Dear Friends,
We installed server as virtual machine in the EXSI platform, But the CD drive in the server is not showing. I tried almost all the options.
Please help in this issue.

The server w drive is connecedt as a "Client Device" and have "Connected at power on" ticked.

We already install two server in that Exsi machine. Now when i created another VM, CD is not working. And i checked other server also in that also the CD is not working.

So any server in that platform the CD drive is not detecting. I think some options in the EXSI platform we have to change.

Welcome to the Community,

the reason why the physical drive is not detected could be an issue with the server hardware, CD-ROM drive firmware, ...

The easiest way to workaround this issue is to use ISO images and upload them to a new folder on a datastore (e.g. "ISO-Repository") using the datastore browser and then attach the ISO to the virtual CD-ROM drive. This way installations also run much faster.

Can you post screenshot of Settings window one of your problem vm (with CD/DVD Drive 1 selected)?

Assuming you are on ESXi 4.x, I moved the discussion from 1. Design Considerations Guidelines for VMware View to VMware ESXi™ 4

How can i save the ISO image in the datastore.

  • open the datastore browser (right click a datastore -> "Browser Datastore")
  • create a new folder, e.g. ISO-Repository
  • select the new folder
  • click the "Upload" icon and upload the ISO file
