Good day,
I'm unsuccesfully trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my fresh ESXi 4
install. I've installed 8.04 on Fusion, Server 2.0.x and ESX 3.02, but
when I run through the installer, it stops with a bright red screen when trying to install the
kernel package (or linux-image on jeos). This happens whether I'm trying to use LVM or not, and has happend on 8.04.02 server, jeos-8.04.02. I ran md5 on the ISOs and they're fine.
Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone installed Ubuntu Hardy on ESXi4? I'm attaching a pic of the problem I'm encountering.
Thanks,
Joe
Either you don't have hardware virtualization support in the motherboard or processor, it isn't enabled in the BIOS, or your processor does not support long mode.
I'll check it out, it's probably one or all of them. Thanx!
The restrictive hardware requirements of ESXi have me leaning heavily back towards a minimal 64 Bit Linux install running VMWare Server.
MB-$63
AMD Quad core CPU $200
8 gig RAM $126
2 x 500Gig HD's $140
Ubuntu 8.04 with VMWare Server $0
and I can install anything on it. I can even start with a single core sempron CPU $40 then up grade to Dual or quad as needed.
1.) Can you boot off an ubuntu 8.0.4 livecd?
2.) Select a 1 CPU system with 512 memory, a basic default install, don't change any of the defaults.
3.) Try 8.04.1, use 32bit only.
