Cannot install vCenter 5 on Windows 2003 Ent 64-bit

Hi,

Anyone know what I can't install vCenter 5 on Windows 2003 Ent 64-bit?

I am getting:

vcenter erorr.jpg

vCenter Server is not supported on this platform. Refer to the installation guide for the supported list of platforms. Make sure that Windows is not running as Domain Controller.

I can confirm that is not running on a domain controller.

https://imagicon.info/cat/5-59/vmware-cool.gifif you are running Windows 2003, there should be a possibility that your machine doesn't meet the min req for vCenter5 and might be lower than 3GB of vRAM and 2 vCPU like what Andre said.

Welcome to the VMware Communities forums.  Would you be running a non-English install of Windows?  If so there is a not on that here - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.vmware.vsphere.install.doc_50/GUID-7C9A1E23-7....

Can you confirm you are running Windows 2003 with at least SP2 and have installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (+ language pack)?

Have you installed SP2 on your Windows 2003 system? vCenter Server 5.0 requires a 64-bit operating system and cannot be installed on a 32-bit operating system.

These operating systems are supported:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 SP2 64bit
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 SP2 64bit

Check below guide for more details,

OR here is even a better idea.. upgrade the OS to 2008 R2!  Problem solved.  2003 isn't REALLY supported anymore, it is for NOW, but there will be an announcement this year 2003 is going away.. so be prepared to use 2008.

Thank you guys for all your replies, sorry I have not reported back quicker.

Basically my vm only had 1 cpu and 1 GB off ram and I also did not have 2003 SP2 installed.

I have now given it  3gb of ram, 2 vcpus and installed 2003 SP2.

FWIW, I had this problem on a physical server. Once I rebooted and tried again all was well (crossing fingers - install is proceeding as I type).
