I have made sure that the OS type in the VM settings is "Windows 2003 32 bit". I am using the LSI Parallel controller. Virtualization settings are "automatic". Host is HP DL380G7 with latest firmware. Running the latest HP ESXi build. During guest OS install just hangs at "staring windows" with processor pegged at 100%.
how much ram did you give the vm
4GB RAM and 1vCPU (Host has an X5660 6 core 2.8GHz CPU with HT enabled). The CPU gets pegged at 100%, the RAM does not.
try turning off the nic.
just a hunch.
is it all 2003 isntalls or only this particualr isntall?
do other os installs act like this?
Turned off the NIC, no change.
Have not had this problem with Windows2008, XP, 7, or 64 bit version of Windows 2003. Trying to set this up to move our file/print server to VMware. Only reason I'm sticking with Windows 2003 32bit is because some of the printers it serves don't have 64 bit drivers and since we license individually didn't see a need to buy a new OS license.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Well what do you know. Panic mode disengaged. Bad install CD!!!
Thanks again for the suggestions! Guess I should get around to loading the .iso images onto my datastores.
