I installed ESX 4.1 as a host on a virtual machine and vCenter & vSphere 4.1 on the other VM successfully. In vCenter I tried to add the host by connecting with the static ip address I specified during the installation of ESX server, but I got Cannot contact the specified host error.
I went back to the ESX console and type in "domainname" and it said none. With that, I tried to join the esx box to the domain where the vCenter is at by using this command:
#net rpc join mydomain -U mydomain\Administrator
But it said "cannot join as a standalone machine"
I wonder if lack of domain for my esx server host caused the connection error in vCenter? If so, how do I get the esx host to join the domain?
