Cannot add Virtual Flash Capacity

Hello,

i'm trying to add virtual flash capacity to esxi 5.5 u1 hosts but i've a problem.

SSD disks are correctly recognized, for example:

   Vendor: HP

   Revision: 6.40

   SCSI Level: 5

   Is Pseudo: false

   Status: on

   Is RDM Capable: false

   Is Local: true

   Is Removable: false

   Is SSD: true

   Is Offline: false

   Is Perennially Reserved: false

   Queue Full Sample Size: 0

   Queue Full Threshold: 0

   Thin Provisioning Status: unknown

   Attached Filters:

   VAAI Status: unknown

   Other UIDs: vml.0200000000600508b1001c99f0cf0a90cd43a1e2f54c4f47494341

   Is Local SAS Device: true

   Is Boot USB Device: false

No of outstanding IOs with competing worlds: 32

But when i try to add it via Web Client the task complete successfully but i still not have flash capacity added to my host.

What can be the problem?

Thanks for help,

Nicola

Hi, To set up a Virtual Flash resource: 1.In the vSphere Web Client, navigate to the host. 2.Click the Manage tab and click Settings. 3.Under Virtual Flash, select Virtual Flash Resource Management and click Add Capacity. 4.From the list of available SSD devices, select the SSD device to use for virtual flash and click OK. Note: After the Virtual Flash is created, the Device Backing area lists all SSD devices that you use for the Virtual Flash resource. Check if you are following the above correct step while adding the VF or else try to read the issue in the below link might help you. http://tomverhaeg.nl/vmware-esxi/vmware-esxi-tag-a-device-as-local-and-ssd

Hello, thanks for the replay.

I've already followed the link you posted but i'm not able to get virtual flash capacity added to the host.

The SSD is correctly recognised (as per previous screen shoots)

is local: true

is SSD: true

anyway, when i try to add it, the task complete successfully but at the end i've no capacity added.

Hi, Try to check with the command prompt from ESXi host server https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/topic/com.vmware.vsphere.storage.doc/GUID-B78037F1-2262-4853-9D72...

Hello, i've solved.

I've recreated logical disk and reformatted the SSD with the HP controller utility and then i've been able to add vf capacity.

Thanks for help.
