Don't try to change the .vmdk files or you risk to loose data!

Please download the following files from your host (enable SSH and use WinSCP), compress/archive them and attach the resulting .zip file to a reply post.

  • the .vmx file
  • the .vmsd file
  • all vmware*.log files
  • all .vmdk header files (the ones without flat or delta in their names)

In addition to this, please post a screen shot of the datastore browser window, showing all files with their details (sizes, time stamps, ...)

Hello,

I followed UmeshAhuja guideline to corrent VMDK CID to fix this problem, but the Win08 files only can go back to 5 OCT status.

I have another question is can I restore the deleted VMDK file in VMware host ?

Thanks

hehe - nobody asks for the flat.vmdks or the big deltas
the descriptorfiles or enough - they are just a few kb large

You must use WinSCP or something similar - Datastorebrowser has a nasty bug/feature and does not display vmdks correctly.

When Datastorebrowser displays a base.vmdk it only shows a single file : it should display base.vmdk + base-flat.vmdk

When Datastorebrowser displays a snapshot.vmdk it only shows a single file : it should display base-000001.vmdk + base--000001-delta.vmdk.

We need those vmdks without flat or delta in the name

I can't see any vmdks file in WinSCP ...

I can see the .vmdk files!? The .vmdk files we need - besides the other files I mentioned earlier - are the ones with only a few hundred bytes in size.

You cant see any vmdks in the screenshot ???

the small files are all there - those only a few hundred bytes large vmdks are the ones we need

Andre or me already mentioned that we need only the small ones - without flat or delta in the name.
We also dont need those with ctk in the name.

Just download those files with winscp

Please re-read my earlier post (Re: Can't startup win08 VM by deleted snapshot file) to see what is requied, and attach the .zip file to a reply post using "Attach Files" at the bottom of the edit screen when you reply.
