Can't install linux from USB via EFI

.Hello,

could you, please, help me with next problem:

I've prepared USB flash with linux for installing via EFI. It makes 2 partition on USB flash, first is 35MB "EFI System Partition". Second is 1.6GB "FAT".

I create new VM in VMware Workstation 7.1.1. Adding to <vm_name> config string: firmware = "efi". Start VM. Than screen with EFI Shell appears and in device mapping table presents only 2 device (see screenshot).

I know that USB flash is ready to work, because it works previously, but not with VMware. I've check that all on USB flash ready for using via EFI (checked on linux).

As I know, in device mapping table should appears my USB flash "fs0:".

I am experimenting with the same in vmware fusion 5 trial.

Same thing, I can see my usb stick in guest linux (mount and view contents).

However when booting from EFI shell there is no fs0 etc.

My stick is a USB 3.0 and is only recognized with 3.0 on in settings.

The stick is confirmed working on Asrock mobo, booting EFI-wise.

Do you really need to use EFI-firmware ?

If not you can boot from Plop-bootmanager via Iso or Floppy-image.
After Plop has booted you can select USB-devices to continue boot from USB
