Can't expand datastore capacity

Hi.

Please give me some advice.

I added HDD to storage for datastore "ds02" with LUN concatenation.

And I did "increase datasotre capacity" on vSphere client with Error.

The error is this.

"Unable to grow Filesystem, please see VMkernel log fordetails : No space left on device"

VMkernel log is this.

2014-11-06T01:59:05.584Z cpu38:34276)LVM: 2907: [naa.600000e00d280000002800c000010000:1] Device expanded (actual size 61160331231 blocks, stored size 30580164575 blocks)

The results didn't increase capacity and missing divice on selecting device menu.

Adding capacity been recognized for vmfs, but not increase free capacity.

Of course shown datastore device at first time.

I did with vsphere client but from vsphere web client same.

Past capacity : 14.24TB

New capacity : 28.48TB(add 14.24TB)

vsphere 5.5(not update2)

I want to use new capacity.Give me advice.

Best regards.

Hello, Can you try steps below;

Extend lun capacity ( Storage side )

after then

rescan all hba in the cluster

go to vmfs lun properties and increase...

I think it will be ok...

Thank you for your replay.

I checked extend size in storage. So vmfs is already extended.

And did rescan all hba.But device isn't shown increase menu, and not extend capacity....

Are there any other idea? It's ok anything.

Thanks.

So if you go into the vSphere client and go on a host >Configuration > Storage > Rightclick the LUN/Datastore in question > Properties > Increase button which is in the top left of the screen, it shows no additional space after increasing the Datastore size on the SAN?

Hi.

You said the window at "Datastore properties"?

I can't find additional space in the window. There are increase button at top left, device list down left.

Wrong place?

Thank you.

Yes sorry, going off memory

VMware KB: Growing or expanding a VMFS volume or datastore

When you click the increase button does it show additional space you can increase it to?

Now:

Total capacity 14.24TB(top left)

Extent device(down right)

DEVICE capacity 24.48TB

VMFS 24.48TB

And select increase button, but there are no device.

Is this a RDM? or a Datastore

I think that I use datastore.

Would you tell me how to check the type?

That window is very similar, without device name.

A datastore is a LUN that you share out from your storage and format it with VMFS, and store VM's on it

A RDM is a LUN you share out from your Datastore but assign it directly to a VM.

Could you show us a screenshot of your storage screen, you can blurr out the names of the storage if you want.

Also here is the instruction set in the web client

Thanks a lot.

Definitely I use Datastore.

There are over 80 VMs,and datastore are only two.

I will show my vsphere client screenshot tomorrow, because I am far from console.Sorry.

And I read the link.I can't select the device in procedure 2.

I can't understand...

What kind of storage are you using (Vendor, iSCSI, Fibre, ect)  Also what is your ESXi host up to  5.5 update 2?

I use Fujitsu DX100S3 iSCSI.

And host is not update2.just 5.5.

I think that is not special.

Thank you reply.

I'm late.Community site was down.

This is my datastore screenshot. You can see datastore size too.

Extents(down left) and Extent Device(donw right) are already expanded.

And I select increase button, but there are any device.

I suspect this KB1016222.But I did "rescan all" some times.

Hello again,

I think problem is storage side,

Can you verify " Lun successfully extended" in storage side,
Can you share storage side screenshot? Maybe raid rebuild still process or etc...

Hi.

I want to show screenshot, but language problem.

(Maybe I wrote wrong Size.Past Size :14.24TB New Size :28.48TB)

CLI> show flexible-tier-pools -ftrp-name ftrp1

Flexible Tier Pool   Status        Total       Used        Used      Warn-  Atten-  Encryp-

No. Name                           Capacity    Capacity    Status    ing(%) tion(%) tion

--- ---------------- ------------- ----------- ----------- --------- ------ ------- -------

  1 ftrp1            Available        28.48 TB     8.98 TB Normal        80      60 Disable

<Flexible Tier Sub Pool List>

Flexible Tier Sub Pool Disk      RAID    Status        Total       Used

No. Name               Attribute Level                 Capacity    Capacity

--- ------------------ --------- ------- ------------- ----------- -----------

  2 ftsp2              Nearline  RAID5   Available        28.48 TB     8.98 TB

CLI>

I heard from Fujitsu that rebuild not affected.

They say storage rebuild is shown quick format to ESXi host.

If VM write to non format area, storage format the area immediately.

Thank you for your advice!
