I have 3 esxi hosts. host1, host2, and host3. I can login through vsphere on host1 and host3. VCenter is on host2. I can't connect to host2 using the root user like I can host1 and host3.
I am able to ping host2. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot it?
Hi,
Can you connect through the console with your root user? Or is that failing as well?
The host was restarted from the console and is now available. All the VMs, except vcenter migrated to hosts 1 and 3 after the restart. On host 2, the VMs show up as unknown even though they migrated. The storage now appears unavailable to host 2, but is available to 1 and 3.
where is your vCenter server at the moment?
Hi,
If you are using iscsi storage, try to rescan on host 2. Else specify your storage details and logs to assist you further.
vcenter vm is still on host 2. i'm not sure how to move it.
Restarted the host again and vcenter came online. Now I can't vmotion the vms that were on host 2.
is there an error you get when you try to vmotion?
when you attempt to vmotion the guests what error do you get on failure??

Check that DNS is working properly. It has often been my experience that this connection error is a result of DNS being down.

The problem was that I was in multiple groups. I'm new to managing vmware and I found that along with being in the vmware administrators group my AD account was in a lower group. After removing my account from the lower group I could migrate the vms.
Remember the rules about AD privileges the lowest rights win
