Can't add disk, device is detected

Hi,

In my home testing environment I have 2 ESXi 5.5 servers. In vCenter (and on the erver) the HD device (a SSD) shows up, but when adding storage it can be selected / isn't being found / doesn't show.

When I want to remove (detach) the device I get the message that it is in use, but I don't know whats using it. I'm still learning VMware, so I don't know how to find out what is using the SSD disk.

I been Googling and found some hints, but I can't figure out what commands to use at the prompt.

Can somebody please help me.

Thanks in advantage.

Got it solved.

The disk where configged under "Virtual Flash" (Cluster->host -> setting). A setting that is only available in the webclient and can't be found in the vCenter local client.

Was looking in the wrong place :smileyblush: :smileylaugh:

Can you check your esxi is not install on this disk by running vmkfstools -Ph /bootbank

Now check someone is not configured the ssd to use as host cache

Then finally check the datastore us not being by this.

This is all possible sxenario.

If still issue .please post back

Thanks for the reply

  • The ESX is installed on separate SD card
  • Under configuation "Host Cache Configuration" there is nothing displayed
  • I didn't get "Then finally check the datastore us not being by this." Can you please elaborate?

Thanx!
