Can Vmkernel ports be connected with crossover cable?

Hi,

I have only two ESX hosts, and can't assign dedicated network for their VMkernel . So I want to connect the vmkernel ports with crossover cable.

If it is possible?

I assume you just want it for vmotion. It will work fine until you want to go to 3 hosts.

"possible"... yes

Recommended: NO

Supported: doubtful

Good idea: Not really (I know, very subjective). Unless you happen to be from the Disney School of IT... Where it's all f***ing Goofy...

Hi,

Can you explain more on the disadvantages of connecting the vmkernel ports by crossover cable?

I thought there should be no great difference because I only use the vmotion function of vmkernel....

The only downside I can see is scalability however, even when you do need to goto a switch with 3 hosts bringing those ports down won't cause an outage to the VM networks.
